The Good Book Stall

Is there anything that prepares you fully for pastoral ministry?

Greek, Hebrew, some New Testament, a dash of Ethics, a side of Pastoral skills, but really it can feel as heresy radar rather than developmental in the tools to navigate the complicated waters of people, purpose and the plan of God. This is dense work that offers many rules of thumb and check-lists by the plenty to make reference rich, the typical American-style and for me the obsession with growth, caused this title to be neglectful of the priority of health.

Pastoral ministry is tough work. Most of the tips are about two to five pages long, and will appeal very much to the busy pastor. The brevity and the signposts also offered are very good.

The diagrams, tables, and illustrations add greatly, to making this book a pleasure to read. The range of themes addressed covers buildings and budgets, it shows readers about the nitty-gritty of management, leadership, relationships, biblical perspectives, and core church ministries.

I'd have loved more resources in the bibliography and alternative views on the same topic as in the brilliance of Wayne Grudem in Systematic Theology.

How it will or will not translate into the British or European market is another question. The resources are there, so how they might be used or deployed is something else altogether. It's a gutsy workbook full of reference provocation.
