Tom Wright's latest guide is as readable and practical as all the ones that preceded it. In this one he walks with us through the letters of James, Peter, John and Jude. The text - freshly translated from the Greek by the author - is printed in full in manageable sections. I love the way that the explanation which follows each passage almost invariably begins with an apt anecdote or illustration, often from his own experience. This leads into a discussion which brings out the meaning of the verses, usually with helpful bits of background information. Although this is not a verse by verse, blow by blow, commentary I often find myself saying, 'Ah, now I see what that means.' As Tom explains in his introduction, the 'early Christian letters' in this book are short, sharp and to the point. They are full of practical advice for Christians taking their early steps in faith and full of wonder at the fact of Jesus - who He is, what He has done and what He revealed about God Himself.
