Dr Diane Stinton has taught in Kenya since 1984 and is currently Senior Lecturer and Chair of Theological Research at Day Star University, Nairobi. She is author of Jesus of Africa: Contemporary Christology (Orbis) and has worked closely with many African theologians.

Stinton has edited the work of prominent African theologians, making their writings accessible at an introductory level. Some African scholars have written new pieces for the book, others have given permission for articles to be condensed and simplified in style. Kwame Bediako, Benezet Bujo, Philomena Mwara and Isabel Phiri are just four of the theologians featured.

From a European point of view this is a fascinating glimpse into the theological, cultural and practical problems involved in discovering an authentically African proclamation of the Gospel written by and for African Christians. I hope, however, that it will not be treated simply as a book for specialists, since reading it is a helpful antidote to a certain parochialism that can hamper the vision of any national church.
