While making clear Jesus' divinity, in Mark's account we also see a very human and even emotional Jesus. The Gospel of Mark is regarded by some as perhaps the most realistic of all the gospels. William Barclay (1907-1978) is known and loved by millions worldwide as one of the greatest Christian teachers of modern times. His insights into the New Testament, combined with his vibrant writing style, have delighted and enlightened readers of all ages for over half a century. He served for most of his life as Professor of Divinity at the University of Glasgow, and wrote more than fifty books--most of which are still in print today.

William Barclay

1907 - 1978

William Barclay once said that his life's aim was to help new generations "to know better their Bible, their God and their Saviour".

The words and works of this great communicator of the Gospel inspire and sustain the Christian faith of thousands all over the world.

Born in Wick, Barclay studied at the University of Glasgow before becoming a Church of Scotland minister in 1933. He returned to the university as a lecturer in New Testament language and literature in 1947 and was appointed Professor of Divinity and Biblical Criticism in 1963.
