The tone of the story is summed up in the title. Nevertheless it's a lovely, compelling sequel to Letter Perfect from Cathy Marie Hake that you won't want to miss. Laney McCain has been in love with Galen O'Sullivan for half of forever although he has never shown any interest in her except as his best friend's pesky little sister. Galen O'Sullivan can hardly believe it's taken him so long to wake up...Laney McCain has become a woman...(when did that happen?!)...&amp; he's out to court her. However, things don't exactly go to plan when the Grubb family arrive &amp; squat on his land. Galen chooses to allow them to stay &amp; in exchange work around the house &amp; farm. Despite this, his kindness is thrown back in his face, &amp; his decision to let them stay becomes one he regrets. For Galen &amp; Laney, the path to true love is truly bittersweet as they have to put aside their feelings for each other &amp; instead reach out in love, kindness, gentleness &amp; mercy to those who need it, even though they don't deserve it.

Bittersweet, but lovely.

The Good Book Stall

True to its title, this is a Bittersweet romance set in California at the time of Lincoln’s election as President. The war between the North and the South is starting but plays no part in the story other than to set the scene. Laney and Galen O’Sullivan are meant for each other, though at the start Galen does not realise it. Then along comes the Grubb family. Pa Grubb is mean and nasty and brews moonshine with his unsavoury ‘partners’. His twin children have been dragged from pillar to post since their Mother died, and have grown up supporting each other in the face of their father’s abuse. When the Grubbs are allowed to stay on the O’Sullivan land, Pa continues with his evil trade but the two young people grab the chance to mix with the family and their friends with unexpected results. Another tale that holds your attention and keeps you reading into the night.
